As a part of Industry-Institute Interface, students of Shri Ram Murti Smarak International Business School, Lucknow had an opportunity to visit Hafizia Art & Crafts Pvt. Ltd. based in Sitapur, (UP). The industrial visit was held on the 23rd of February and organized by Prof. (Dr). Ekta Rastogi. It aimed to offer management aspirants an insight into the functioning of leading exporters in the country and the challenges they face on a regular basis. It also offered them exposure to handicraft products and international market dealings with multinational companies.

Hafizia Art & Crafts is one of the leading Rugs and Carpet manufacturers in India. Set up in 1992 with its manufacturing base in the hub of the Indian weaving industry, Sitapur (U.P), the company has continued to improve, both in sales and in quality. It achieved ISO 9001: 2008 certification, a major milestone for manufacturing companies, in 2009. Today, the company manufactures products using the three techniques of Pit loom, Jacquard Loom, Panja Loom and exports to 35 countries and works with big International brands like Zara, Ikea and E-mart.

With this visit, students of SRMS IBS had the privilege of gaining an in-depth look into the functioning of a leading player in the market. Mr. Ubaid Akram Ansari, one of the board members of Hafizia Art & Crafts, gave students a presentation that offered an overview of the company. It not only talked about the company’s history but also explained the entire process of rug manufacturing from weaving to packing. It was interesting to note that stringent quality control is imperative for all companies, irrespective of their reputation.

While the brand has been a huge success, it also does its best to take environmentally friendly measures. In 2011, the company built a green belt of around 3,000 sq. ft. area inside the factory. It also contributes towards corporate social responsibility and is concerned about labour welfare. These are some of the crucial elements for the success of a large-scale organization. Future management professionals from the institute who visited the facility learned that and had many other important takeaways from the visit.
