The department is dedicated to high standard of patient care, medical research & training of ug and PG residents. The department of surgery provides round the clock emergency services and OPD services, conducting minor procedures, emergency surgery and major surgeries including management of trauma. With an OPD of more than 35000 a year and a fully functional burn unit, surgical high dependency unit (HDU) and surgical ICU, department of surgery is running a MIS unit and has become the leading service provider in the field of advanced laparoscopic surgery in Rohilkhand region.

The department has done 20 publications in the last academic year. Surgery is a skill-based branch and faculties take keen interest in organizing conferences, CMEs, surgical workshops and guest lecturers for updating skills and knowledge of faculties and the post graduates. Continuing the same legacy, department of Surgery is organizing prestigious fellowship course FALS hernia in November 2023 which will attract delegates from all over the country and give chances to in house surgeons and others to further enhance their skills. Many post graduate students after training from SRMS are now pursuing super specializations. MCH Neurosurgery courses have been started in the department which is the first in Rohilkhand region. Starting with basic laparoscopy 20 years ago, the department has grown in leap and bounds in minimally invasive surgery and now offers gamut of advanced laparoscopic surgeries. Department of surgery takes immense pride as an established referral centre for advanced laparoscopic procedures in Rohilkhand and Kumaon region. Catching up with the latest technology in patient care, the department is in the process of installing robotic surgical set up.

The department takes pride in possessing several advanced surgical equipment such as harmonic scalpel, DGHAL for hemorrhoids, minimal invasive surgery (Laparoscopic) setup and holmium/ thulium laser system for urological surgery. For the benefit of students, and ENDOLAB, for learning basic skills in laparoscopic surgery including tissue handling and endosuturing, has been commissioned in the department. Frequent guest lectures and workshops provide the students with recent advances in the field of surgery. Besides providing quality specialty and super-specialty services, the department of surgery gives special precedence to the training of undergraduates and post graduate students posted. It has an annual intake of post graduate students and NMC recognized PG seats and the results average at 100% per year. Students take keen interest in clinical training as well as in research work. All PG students take active participation in poster presentation, oral presentation and publications apart from their thesis work.
