admin Blog, Know My SRMS

Most engineering graduates can only dream of getting placed with a top international brand. Hence it’s not surprising that Dhruv Chaubey, B. Tech – IT, Shri Ram Murti Smarak College of Engineering & Technology (SRMS CET), Bareilly is on cloud nine after bagging placement with IBM India. With the global market-leading company he has the perfect platform to launch a successful career. But he also knows that the foundation for his future career was laid from the day he walked into his college campus. We spoke to Dhruv about the building blocks of his academic journey that led to his coveted placement today.

The buzz around the placements

SRMS CET, Bareilly believes in preparing students for industry challenges from the very first day. However, the preparations are turned a few notches up before placements. The Training, Development & Placement (TDP) cell took all the effort to bring the best recruiters to the campus and boost placement opportunities for students. “Did my part by focusing on basic skills and knowledge. Didn’t try to learn anything out of the way and cause confusion or imbalance. Recruiters want to know if you have the ‘basics’ right and whether you have the confidence to express yourself – which I did,” Dhruv says with a smile.

Finding the best expression

Dhruv stresses on the importance of English and communication skills to make the right impression during the placement process. According to him, you might have all the technical knowledge but if you are not able to convey it to your recruiters then you will struggle to make an impact. “Feel this is where our college helped us tremendously. Employability Skills Enhancement Program (ESEP) and personality development programs are as important as core subject classes – they groom you. Also, gained confidence by participating in events like AAMOD and ZEST.”

Industry connect

Your personality definitely matters because it speaks volumes about you as an ideal candidate. But, at the same time, as an engineer you need to take your learning beyond the classroom and have a fair idea of what’s going on in the industry. SRMS CET, Bareilly offers students industry exposure and internships based on their interests. “Classroom learning is not enough to transform you into a professional. Was lucky to have exposure and internship – crucial to understand industry environment and to grow into a professional.”

A mixed bag of emotions

Dhruv is looking forward to his professional journey with the software giant. His profile gives him the opportunity to learn new technologies and understand how a large-scale organization functions. He remains excited about what the future holds, but is sad to say goodbye to his campus. “Gained a lot from this college! There are so many memories to cherish. Winning back to back state zonal basketball championship was one such special moment. The journey here is made of many beautiful memories – they will forever remain with me.”
