Faculty Development Program on Recent Advances In Power Electronics & Drive

A five days faculty development program on Recent Advances in Power Electronics and Drive was held at the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering of Shri Ram Murti Smarak College of Engineering and Technology Bareilly, under the sponsorship of TEQIP III & Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University Lucknow from 10th to 14th July 2018. The FDP aims to provide opportunities to faculty members, research scholars and post graduate students to enrich their knowledge about the significance of recent technology and current research opportunities in their working domains.

The Program also provided excellent opportunities to exchange ideas on technical session. The sessions of this FDP was conducted by the team of eminent academicians and industry expert possessing in depth knowledge in the area of recent trends in power electronics and Drive. It consists of series of lectures and practical sessions. The FDP was attended by around seventy participants consists of faculty members and research scholars from various engineering colleges.

INAUGRAL SESSION

The FDP was started at 9:30 am on 10 July 2018 with the inaugural session in the presence of Trust Administrator Er. Subash Mehra , Chief Guest Prof Rajesh Gupta from MNNIT Allahabaad, Dean Student Welfare SRMSCET Mr. Santosh Khare sir, FDP coordinator And Faculty Incharge Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Sir. Inaugural session was started by lightning of ceremonial lamp by all dignitaries present in the session and with Saraswati Vandana. After the welcome of house by Sadaf Kasim, the badges and plants are presented as token of appreciation to all our dignitaries. We have presented PLANT in order to encourage plantation for green environment by Shri Ram Murti Trust.

After this a welcome address given by Mr. Santosh Khare sir, Then Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Sir Faculty Incharge of EN Department presented the objectives and abstract of the FDP.

Then Chief Guest Prof Rajesh Gupta from MNNIT Allahabad, had given brief information about the Advances In Power Electronics And Drives. After this Trust Administrator Er. Subash Mehra Sir encouraged the faculty members for such activities and emphasized on the benefits of such kind of resourceful events. He also gave his best wishes and shown support for this program. In the end of Inaugural session Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Sir, FDP coordinator proposed vote of thanks and gave his best wishes for the program.

After this we started the technical sessions for 5 days with lectures on each day.

The first session was taken by Prof(Dr.) Rajesh Gupta, Electrical department from MNNIT Allahabad who delivered a keynote address on Power Semiconductor Devices And Power converters in which he discussed the introductory part and its importance. He also explained All Type of Power Converters as like AC to DC,DC to AC, AC to AC, DC to DC. in second session Prof(Dr.) Rajesh Gupta discussed the All type of Power Switches. In last session Prof(Dr.) Rajesh Gupta explained the Application of Digital Controllers in Power Electronics and Converters.

In first session, an informative lecture delivered by Professor A.K.Gupta Sir, DEAN IETMJPRU from Bareilly, on the overview of issues related with power electronics and drive. He also given introduction of Traditional methods of power control, advantage of power semiconductors devices, Turn on losses and turn off losses. In the second session Professor A.K.Gupta Sir discussed high dv/dt turns on scr problems. In third session, Dr. Manoj Tripathy Sir discussed Innovative pilot relaying schemes for compensated lines and power demand.

In the first session Dr. Manoj Tripathy Sir from IIT Roorkee has illuminated us an overview of pilot protection scheme, its history, importance and applications. In second session Dr. Manoj Tripathy discussed SSCII based pilot protection scheme, SE based protection scheme, SRPC based protection scheme. In the last session Associate Prof(Dr.)Desh Deepak Sharma introduce the recent scenario of energy storage technologies.

In first session Dr. S.P.Singh, Associate Professor from REC AMBEDKAR NAGAR has taken a very interactive session on basics of power quality improvement using converters with suitable examples and applications. In second session He has also explained voltage sag, swell, over/under voltage, waveform distortion, voltage notching, transient disturbance. In the Third session Dr. Yogesh kumar Chauhan, associate professor from KNIT SULTANPUR Explained performance issue in photovoltaic system. In the last session he discussed about the Effect of partial shadowing condition of solar panel and suggested various ideas to reduce this effect.

In first session Dr. Sanjay Agarwal, Associate Professor from electrical department of School of Engineering and technology, IGNOU, New Delhi discussed about Solar panel, Photovoltaic and Thermal electric system. In second session Prof. Mohd. Rizwan Khan from Electrical department AMU Aligarh discussed about Multi Phase integrated on Board battery charger for Electric Vehicles.

VALEDICTORY SESSION

The valedictory session was started at 03:40pm on 14th July 2018. The Honorable personalities present in the occasion were Er. Subhash Mehra Trust Administrator, and Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Sir FDP coordinator & Dean Student Welfare SRMSCET Mr. Santosh Khare sir. After the welcome address by MOC, the ceremony started with presentation of brief summary report about the FDP by Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Sir FDP coordinator. All the participants from various institutions appreciated the program and department for organizing the FDP in their feedback. After this certificates were presented to the participants by dignitaries. Then Er. Subhash Mehra, Trust Administrator, addressed the gathering and shown his kind gratitude to the organizing department. He also encouraged the participants and emphasized on the benefits of such activities. Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, FDP coordinator and had proposed vote of thanks to all the Committee members, Camera man, Hospitality & Catering members and everyone who were the part of this 5 days faculty Development Program. Then, the valedictory session was concluded whit the National Anthem.

Outcome

All the sessions were very much informative. The discussed areas are of great benefit for participants as the topics are similar with their current working domain. Participants were enlightened with the most widely used advance techniques in this domain. This in turn will help in their research activities.
