Shri Ram Murti Smarak College of Engineering & Technology (SRMS CET), Bareilly conducted a Campus Outreach Program at Green Wood Sr. Sec. School, Rampur, Bareilly. The program was conducted on 22 October and was coordinated by MR. N.K. TIWARI (Senior Lecturer).

Approximately 60 Class 12 students participated in the Career Counseling Session that was conducted as part of the program.

The session was started by Mr. Sumit Saxena, Faculty SRMS CET&R, Basic Science Department who gave a brief introduction to the SRMS Trust and its institutions. He also explained the purpose of Campus outreach program by highlighting the aspects that Class 12 students should be focused on. The session was conducted in workshop mode and included prompting questions like:

  • Do you always do what your heart says or is your decision influenced by your friends, family and parents?

  • Are you really interested in subjects you study?

  • If given opportunity to make your own combination of subjects what combinations would you prefer?

These kind of questions helped to kick start participation by the students. The questions were also self-revealing for the students some of whom realized that they were studying their subjects only out of peer or family pressure.

Following on from this, the discussion got into streams that could be chosen after school education, fields that are good career prospects, education options abroad vs. in India, alternatives to IIT, developing relevant skill sets, etc. All students participated enthusiastically in the discussions. Further, Mr. Ankit Kumar (Faculty SRMS CET) shared some key concepts like self-introspection, personality assessment, and individual SWOT analysis which can help the students finding their true potential. The final part of the discussion covered the different types of exams available based on individual skills and competency, especially those exams which are uncommon and students are not normally aware about.

Students of the school found the workshop really fruitful and showed their enthusiasm and eagerness to attend such sessions in future. The session came to its end with the motivational words of ladkhadate hai pair jinke , unko kabhi rasta nahi milta , aur hote hai jinke hausle buland , unko raste pe khada Himalaya bhi nahi dhikta”.
