The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SRMS College of Engineering Technology and Research (SRMS CET&R) Bareilly organized an esteemed Alumni Guest Lecture on ‘From the Classroom to Real World: Insights and Inspiration from our Esteemed Alumni’ recently for the students of B Tech at colleges’ mini auditorium. The Special Guests and Keynote Speakers were Oshin Kandpal, an SAP ABAP & SAP SD Technical Architect in Tata Consultancy Services, Bangalore, and Garima Saxena, a Senior Backend Developer in Boston Consulting Group, Gurgaon, who are the alumnus from B Tech (CSE) Batch 2014.
Having good experience in IT Industry, Oshin Kandpal is an enthusiastic and a driven Systems Engineer with a proven track record of understanding and translating system requirements, and working with SAP modules. She’s a Certified Development Specialist in ABAP for SAP HANA 2.0. On the other hand, after exploring several jobs, Garima Saxena joined Eninov Systems through college placement, and then switched to a gaming domain, Aristocrat Technologies (MNC). Later, she switched to BlueStacks for better opportunities, and there she got an opportunity to work in BCG as a Senior Backend Developer. She had won multiple awards for her work and deliverables.
The lecture sessions began with the lamp lighting ceremony followed by welcoming the guests by Dr Prabhakar Gupta, Dean Academics, and Dr LS Maurya, Principal, CET&R. Soon after, the guest speakers gave valuable insights from their personal experiences related to IT industry, and shared how they made a mark in the industry and their journey, which was inspiring for students and helped them prepare for their future career. Their experiences on journey from classroom to industry was beneficial, effective and interactive, which certainly motivated the students to perform better and become industrial ready.
To begin with, Oshin Kandpal gave deep insights about her working experience in a startup and her dedication and determination of learning industrial work. She elaborated about importance of technology in every sector, growing market trends, digitization, emerging technologies, skills and tools. She also highlighted about college, faculties and lectures that play an important role in building carrier of the students and shaping them.
Later, Garima Saxena enlightened the students with numerous valuable information essential for the students to achieve good placements. She explained the need of right mix of technology and soft skills, and guided the students about how to prepare a resume, what details must be kept, how many languages & subjects’ students must have their command upon. She also defined the difference between placement in technical vs non-technical companies. Towards the end of the event, the guests were presented with memento of appreciations and gifts.
