About INSPIRE

INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit of Inspired Research) promoted by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), New Delhi is a program launched by the government of India to inspire students into natural sciences and provide strong base of natural sciences in India. Government of India approved this programme in its 11th 5-year plan in November 2008 at a total cost of Rs. 2,000 crores and the Hon’ble Prime Minister launched the program on 13th December 2008.

INSPIRE is an innovative programme which was started with the object of attracting brilliant students towards research in science so that our country may lead the world in research. It has been observed that many students are not aware of all the fields of science or they do not have clear idea about the opportunities and kind of work available in the field. As a result, the interest of students has decreased in science and applied science streams. Ultimately research work of India is getting affected.

The programme intends not only to arouse interest of students in science but also to inspire them to do research. To achieve the goal of this programme top one percent of class X passed out students are being allowed to join the camp. During the camp students meet various eminent Indian research scholars/ awardees having international repute in the areas of science. They act as mentors and try to inspire students by giving insights into their field and motivating them through deliberations, demonstrations, practical hand on experience, model preparation etc. There will also be cultural/sport activities undertaken besides screenings of science fiction movies in the evening.
