Nikita Sethi remembers her first day on the Shri Ram Murti Smarak College of Engineering, Technology & Research, Bareilly campus where she was introduced to college life. She was filled with anticipation and excitement as she decided to embrace the learning and experiences at her college with open arms. According to the B. Tech – Computer Science student of Batch 2013 -17, it is this attitude that paid off. Today, she has been placed with a top brand like HCL where she will be working as an Application Support Engineer. Here, she takes us on her transformational journey that groomed her as a professional.

How it all started

Nikita believes that her transformation at the college began from Day 1 as she was trained with industry requirements in mind. Her faculty members ensured that all students remained engaged in the classroom, while industry interaction sessions offered them valuable insights. “Our faculty members would evaluate us as at every phase so we knew how we were progressing,” she says. “I would like to mention special programs like ESEP that were designed for our overall grooming and gave us additional knowledge, which was beneficial during placements.”

Focus on well-rounded professionals

SRMS CETR, Bareilly endeavors to not only mold capable future professionals but well groomed individuals, who are assets to their organizations as well. Personality development programs at the institute are interactive and encourage students to step outside of their comfort zones. Nikita, who benefited from these programs, says, “We were given so many opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities. I hosted Group Dance, one of the major events at the college fest. These moments boosted my confidence and enhanced my personality to a large extent.”

Internship state of mind

Live projects and industry visits were a regular feature of learning at her college. But Nikita knew that her internship programs would an integral part of her industry experience. As the internship period approached, she worked on her technical and soft skills, and with the support of her faculty members gave it her best shot. “I did my internships with WB Promotion, Gurgaon and CISTEMS, Bareilly. They were both very diverse organizations and the focus of projects was different but it was an eye-opener about how the industry functions,” she adds.

The last leg

Nikita’s training for four years was leading up to the placement season. The TDP cell took all the effort to ensure that top recruiters came to the campus and students were offered best profiles. The special preparation students were put through finally did the trick. “We went through many mock group discussions and interviews that helped us gain in confidence. The placement process included several rounds but I remained confident and made sure I impressed with my technical skills and overall presentation,” she says as she looks forward to her professional journey.
