It’s only natural that engineering students are focused on placements, especially as they progress through their program. Sudhanshu Ranjan Pandey, 4th year student of B. Tech., Electronics & Communication Engineering at SRMS CET, Bareilly makes no bones about expressing his expectations from his college. But he also asserts that he has every reason to be hopeful: “Last year SRMS had 100% placement for MBA and MCA students. A large number of engineering students also got placed with top companies like TCS, Pompeii, and Certination. So things are definitely looking up for us.”

So what makes SRMS graduates appealing to the industry? Sudhanshu takes us through different aspects of learning at his college and how it prepares students for the industry.

Building a strong foundation

According to Sudhanshu, at SRMS the focus remains on moulding professionals for the industry. But that doesn’t mean the basics are compromised at any point. He talks about the relevance of the program: “The program keeps us up-to-date with the latest technological advancements in the field. We learn in the classroom as well as in the lab. This ensures we have sound theoretical and practical knowledge of modern engineering concepts, which companies look for.”

Faculty support is crucial

Sudhanshu believes that the faculty pool at SRMS is one of the institute’s biggest strengths. The college attracts many senior faculty members, who also have industry experience. And that boosts the learning experience. “I would say that our faculty members are the best because they give us all the attention we require. Bringing their industry experience to the classroom, they share examples with us. This makes it easier to relate concepts to the real world.”

Internships with reputed brands

At SRMS students get updates on latest courses and programs like PLC and CCNA, which they can use to their advantage. Industry interaction sessions give them the exposure they need to make a mark with recruiters. “The college also makes efforts to find us the best possible internships – the training ground for our professional journeys. Last year HUAWEI visited our campus to offer internships to pre-final year students. These are huge experiences for us.”

Multidimensional growth

So far with SRMS, Sudhanshu has bagged 2nd prize in a debate competition and 1st consolation prize in a state-level story writing competition. He says the theatre group Atharva and cultural events like Zest ensure that students are able to showcase their talent and develop different facets of their personality. “These activities have led to tremendous growth in my personality. My communication skills have improved and I feel more confident in my abilities.”
