Chess Champion and Badminton Doubles Gold medallist at SRMS IBS, Anwesh Chowdhary (PGDM Batch 2016–18) brought his best sportsman’s spirit while interning with Bharti Airtel Pvt. Ltd. Backed by the experience he had at his B-School, he made the right moves to win appreciation for his work. “I have learned about corporate work etiquettes and making presentations without inhibitions. I am now better at time management and have developed a risk-taking attitude while dealing with customers.”

A versatile internship experience

Anwesh is grateful to his institute for offering him a strong internship platform with a top brand like Bharti Airtel, Lucknow. His internship project, “Understanding Fixed Line churn: Reasons and Mitigation”, included office responsibilities and visiting customers’ homes for market surveys. “I took it as an adventure but decided to always remain dedicated to the task. When things were beyond my understanding, I would consult my mentor who I would report to daily. I also learned a lot from the professionals working with the company.”

Putting his best step forward

According to Anwesh, since internships represent the first immersive experience into the corporate world for many management aspirants, things are bound to get tricky. From unavailability of customer information to their reluctance to talk, he faced several challenges. But thanks to his learning at SRMS IBS, he felt ready to battle the blues. “For starters, I have learned to work in teams in a completely new environment. I also learned the value of multitasking and time management through events organization. I took the learning with me during the internship and made sure I gave it my best shot.”

A journey leading to the corporate world

Anwesh feels SRMS IBS offers a wholesome learning experience. Here he benefited from international-standard infrastructure, guidance of faculty members, and industrial visits that help students to become corporate-ready. With the internship being another step in the right direction, he managed to ace it with special preparations at his college. “Right from the onset we were taught corporate etiquettes. We work on our presentation and communication skills every day. We were put through group discussions and personal interviews as well. All these efforts paid off during my internship. I feel ready for my professional life.”
