Arpit Srivastava on how SRMS IBS helped him make the most out of his internship experience

admin Summer Internship Programme

“My summer internship has given me the experience that I wouldn’t have been able to get in classroom for years. SRMS IBS had prepared me for what to expect during the internship and also ensured that I find one based on my interests. It meant that I had a fruitful, engaging, and enlightening ride,” says Arpit Srivastava, PGDM 2016–18 at SRMS IBS. He completed his internship with Multi Commodity Exchange (Kanpur) and Globe Capital Market Limited (Lucknow). He tells us how this has fine-tuned his professional skills and attributes.

Fair Share of the Finance World

The internship allowed Arpit to get insights into the dynamic but niche world of commodity market, share market, and mutual funds. His project was a mix of office and field work, which meant that things never got boring during the internship. “In the office I was interacting with experienced professionals and learning from them. On the field, as a sales professional, I was dealing with clients every day. I have learned how to sell a product and answer the questions that consumers are likely to ask. It was challenging at times, but quite satisfying.”

Building on his B-School Foundation

Arpit stresses on the importance of internships for management students but believes that it has to go hand in hand with learning at the B-School. He feels he could gain from his internship experience because SRMS IBS had built the foundation for him. It also helped him to gain the confidence to perform during the internship. “I already had a fair understanding of corporate culture so I had no problems fitting in. I also had sound knowledge of management concepts, which made putting them into practice a lot easier.”

Innovative and Engaging Learning Experience

Half way through his program at SRMS IBS, Arpit believes he has already come a long way. His presentation skills and communication abilities have improved, while he has become more disciplined. He knows that it wouldn’t have been possible without innovative and engaging teaching methods at his B-School. “We have activity-based learning, which helps you understand things with ease. We are also immersed in different activities, which teach us how to work in a group or take responsibility and lead. It has definitely transformed me. I feel I can already think and function like a professional.”
