We can protect children from violence and abuse by generating awareness and through thoughtful action. On 11 November the I-Volunteer Club ‘Akshat’ of SRMS International Business School, Lucknow in association with the Khel Project, Round Table India, Ladies Circle India, and Young Indians (Yi, an initiative of Confederation of Indian Industries) organized an awareness workshop on child abuse. Titled ‘Health, Hygiene, and Safety’, the workshop was held at the under privileged school Round Table India Ladies Circle India SRMS School, Unnao.

The workshop aimed to sensitize one and all about sexual abuse of children and to provide a safer environment for children in society. In addition, the experts at the workshop addressed major issues related to health and hygiene. Promoting iodization of edible salt for preventing and controlling iodine deficiency disorders, the experts distributed free packets of iodized salt to all school students.

The workshop also witnessed girl students (aged 10 and above) getting sensitized about the rarely-talked-about but important natural biological process of Menstruation. Through an open and interactive session, almost all aspects related to menstrual hygiene and safe menstrual practice were discussed. Alongside, sanitary napkins were distributed to the girl students.

A significant learning experience for the attending students, the workshop ended on a positive note reinforcing the need to ensure happy and safe childhood for a better tomorrow.
