In a remarkable medical feat, SRMS Hospital, Bareilly has triumphed in treating a 49-year-old woman’s persistent nasal issues, showcasing the power of expertise & cutting-edge technology.
For 3 agonizing months, patient battled watery discharge from her right nostril, coupled with debilitating headaches that worsened when bending forward. Despite seeking treatment from various ENT specialists across Haldwani, Delhi & even AIIMS, her condition remained unresolved due to intricate nature of required surgery.
Enter Dr Ashish Mehrotra, a seasoned professional & Associate Professor, Department of ENT at SRMS IMS Hospital, whose thorough CT Cisternography revealed underlying cause of spontaneous CSF Rhinorrhoea.
Sharing case details, Dr Ashish said, “On examination, when patient, who was also having diabetes as a co-morbidity, was asked to bend forward, excessive watery fluid dribbled out from right nasal cavity. There was a contrast accumulation in frontal sinus anteromedially on right side & MRI Cisternography revealed defect in right cribriform plate area with evidence of CSF signal intensity trickling through it. She was first treated conservatively with acetazolamide along with antibiotics, but saw no signs of improvement. Understanding the urgency, patient was swiftly recommended Endoscopic Surgical Repair of CSF Rhinorrhoea under general anesthesia. The patient was then shifted to ward, with intravenous antibiotics for a few days. Following the successful procedure, subsequent nasal endoscopies confirmed the absence of any CSF leak, marking a complete turnaround in her health. Most importantly, on her follow-up visit after 4 weeks, her DNE was done, where repair was found to be perfect & fully healed.”
This extraordinary case not only highlights exceptional skill of medical team at SRMS Hospital, but also serves as a beacon of hope for individuals grappling with similar medical complexities.
