The World Immunization Week was celebrated at SRMS-IMS

The World Immunization Week was celebrated at SRMS-IMS from 24th – 30th April 2019. The theme of the World Immunization Week this year was Protected Together: Vaccines Work! Our aim was to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against diseases.

In the year 2012, the WHO endorsed the idea to celebrate Immunization week every year in order to raise awareness regards the vaccine preventable diseases. Immunization saves millions of lives every year and is widely recognized as one of the most successful and cost-effective health interventions. Yet, still there are nearly 20 million unvaccinated and under-vaccinated children in the world today. Keeping this in mind, and following our commitment towards building a society of healthy children, the Department of Pediatrics, SRMS IMS Bareilly planned a week long activities during the World Immunization Week.

A talk on awareness on various aspects of immunization — routine immunization, catch up immunization, adolescent and adult immunization was given in Urban Health Centre of this College and also in rural health Centre of the College on two different days. More than 100 parents participated in the talk on each day.

A poster Competition on the theme of World Immunization Week was organized during the week. Undergraduate Medical students participated and the best poster was awarded with a trophy and certificate to motivate students.

A panel discussion on vaccination was also conducted on 27th April 2019 under the supervision UP IAP and IAP Bareilly. Dr Atul Agarwal, past President IAP Bareilly and Dr PL Prasad HOD Pediatrics SRMS IMS Bareilly were the panelist. The panel discussion was moderated by Dr Rajesh Bansal, HOD Pediatrics of Rohilkhand Medical College. Dr Piyali Bhattacharya, President UP IAP graced the occasion. Local Pediatricians, PG students and parents actively participated in the discussion.

A skit for general public was held to emphasize the importance of vaccination at all ages. The skit was witnessed by more than 70 people.

A quiz on immunization was also held on 29th April in the College auditorium wherein Interns and Final year (8th term) students participated. There were five teams and winner team was awarded a trophy and certificates. Certificate of participation was distributed by Principal SRMS IMS. Prof Piyush Kumar Dean Academic (PG) and Prof Rohit Sharma Dean Academic (UG) were also present to encourage the participants.

Many children reported to Immunization clinic of the College and were immunized free of cost.

With the whole hearted support of Shri Dev Murti Chairman, SRMS Trust and Shri Aditya Murti, Director Administration, SRMS IMS, the Department of Pediatrics, under the able guidance of Prof P L Prasad, Head Department of Pediatrics and the Organizing team led by Dr Nucksheeba Aziz Bhat, Assistant Professor, organized the week long activities successfully.
