In pursuit of World Cancer Day, RR Cancer Institute & Research Centre at Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences (SRMS IMS), Bareilly organized a grand felicitation gathering of ‘Cancer Survivors’ at SRMS Alakhnanda Staff Club on February 3, 2024.
The event began with introduction by MOC, Dr Sanyamita Jain, Senior JR2 & special address by Dr Piyush Kumar Agarwal,HOD Department of Radiation Oncology & Director-RR Cancer Institute, SRMS IMS whohighlighted the advanced technologies including new Brachytherapy machines, Robotic surgery etc at SRMS IMS. Dr Piyush also appreciated the efforts of Professor Dr Milan Jaiswal, HOD, Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine; Professor Dr Lalit Singh, HOD, Department of Respiratory Medicine; Dr Shubhanshu Gupta, Onco-Surgeon & Dr Rohit Sharma, Dean PG for providing quality treatment to patients. Thereafter, a video presentation of feedback by cancer survivors was showcased, wherein they spoke about their journey & cure at SRMS Hospital. The program also featured a poem recitation by Dr Misha Garg (JR1), group song by JR1s & Cancer Awareness Skit by Residents of Department of Radiation Oncology, highlighting prevention from cervical & vaginal cancers & significance of HPV vaccine for girls aged 9-14.
The added highlight was an awareness session on Preventive Oncology by Professor Dr (Col) Manoj Tangri, Gynae-Oncologist. Thereafter Cancer Warriors shared their experiences, wherein JP Tiwari, a Cancer Survivor from Banaras since 2011 said, “I was suffering from oropharynx cancer. I received top-notch care under Dr Piyush & Dr Rohit, and today I am fit & healthy.”
Shri Dev Murti, Chairman, SRMS Trust delivered valuable address, stressing upon the importance of timely treatment & screenings for early cancer detection. Soon after, Cancer Survivors namely Ayesha Khan (Rampur), Mahesh Chandra (Badaun), Bhagwan Devi (Bareilly), Vijay Pal (Moradabad), Maha Singh (Champawat)etcwere felicitated with gift hampers for their resilience in battling the diseaseby Shri Dev Murti & Aditya Murti,Trust Secretary in the presence of Air Marshal Dr MS Butola,Principal IMS; Dr RP Singh, MS; Dr Prabhakar Gupta, Dean Academics SRMS CET; Dr Pavan Kumar; Dr Ayush Garg; Dr Adadi Srinivasa Naidu etc.
Towards the end, vote of thanks was delivered byProfessor Dr Arvind Kumar Chauhan.
