SRMS INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES AND NURSING COLLEGE PAVES WAY FOR TOBACCO-FREE WORLD

With an aim to raise awareness and empower individuals to break free from the clutches of tobacco, World No Tobacco Day was observed recently at SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) & SRMS College of Nursing, Bareilly with an array of engaging activities. With an inspiring theme "Grow food, not Tobacco," the event unfolded under the supervision of Air Marshal Dr MS Butola, Principal SRMS IMS and Professor Rintu Chaturvedi, Principal SRMS College of Nursing in the presence of Dr Piyush Kumar, Professor & HOD, Department of Radiation Oncology; Shahbaz Khan, Assistant Professor, SRMS College of Nursing and other dignitaries.

The event began with thematic Nukkad Natak performance by GNM II-year students, Batch 2021 & IMS residents to promote the message 'Say no to Tobacco'. This was followed by a PPT presentation on hazards of tobacco use and its harmful impact on life that gave a comprehensive knowledge to everyone. Later, Dr Aniket Jadhav, Dr Pallavi Gour & Dr Sanyamita Jain– Junior Residents; Dr Diksha Chaturvedi, Senior Resident; Dr Ayush Garg, Assistant Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology and Professor Rintu Chaturvedi spoke about 'Consequences of Tobacco on Health & Environment'.
The World No Tobacco Day celebration also witnessed a 7-day Cancer Screening Camp, organized by Department of Radiation Oncology & R.R. Cancer Institute Research Center, SRMS IMS, wherein around 84 patients were screened with 15 % discount on tests and 22 patients were clinically suspected and recommended for further investigations & biopsies. The Anti-Tobacco Campaign was made more aggressive and attractive by wearing t-shirts displaying ‘Say No to Tobacco’ worn by faculties, residents and staff, and ended with oath taking ceremony to quit tobacco.
