Shri Ram Murti Smarak College of law, Bareilly organized Mock Parliament 2K19 on “Euthanasia and Advance Medical Directive is a sheer Infringement of Right to Life”. Objective of the event was to generate effective, critical, logical and legal thinking amongst the youth of today. It was one day event organized on 6th of March 2019. More than 30 students participated from B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, MCA, B.Pharm, M.Pharm.

Shri Ram Murti Smarak Trust has precedents of organizing such interdisciplinary and interdepartmental events in order to inculcate learning of different areas in the students. Trust Administrator Er. Subhash Mehra was the guest of Honour who enlightened the students with his eminent knowledge on medico legal.

From Aruna Ramachandra Shanbaug’s case to recent Common cause Judgment was discussed among the students. Both National and international laws, issues, bills, cases related to passive euthanasia and living will were also discussed, various religious writings and revelations on right to die was also among the reasoning for or against the topic. It was a fruitful event which led to new learnings and experiences for the students.

However Passive Euthanasia and living will is endless topic for intellectuals as it open the gates towards the legality of “Hang by neck till death” in case of capital punishment as the same infringes Right to life. The ratio decidendi in Common Cause and Aruna’s judgment may in near future overrule Gian Kaur’s judgment in which right to die is excluded from right to Life under Article 21 of Constitution of India.
