Twelve-year-old Riddhima was gasping for breath, her fragile body battling a high fever & severe lung infection — Bilateral Hydropneumothorax with Bronchopleural Fistula. Her condition deteriorated due to collapsed lungs and fluid accumulation, and her parents, devastated and helpless, had nowhere to turn when her condition worsened!
That’s when Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences (SRMS IMS), Bareilly , became her beacon of hope, wherein, she got admitted to PICU. Under exceptional care of Professor Dr Atul Kumar (from Department of Pediatrics, SRMS IMS) & his dedicated team, Riddhima received intensive treatment, including ventilator support, emergency surgeries & critical care procedures, crucial for survival. The odds were against her, but the expertise & unwavering efforts of Dr Harshit Agarwal (Emergency & Trauma Surgeon) & Dr Lalit Singh (Professor & Head, Department of Respiratory Medicine) turned the impossible into a miracle.
On post-op case, Thoracotomy was performed with Pericardial Effusion & Pleural Culture Positive for Acinetobacter Baumannii, Klebsiella Pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa. Her bronchoscopy was done, which was an added challenge.
After 25 days of relentless battle, Riddhima emerged victorious. With teary eyes, her father, Sudheer Pal expresses, “SRMS didn’t just save my daughter; they gave her a new life. We will remain forever grateful.” Talking about her current status, she is on room air, has been discharged & recovering.
Yet, beyond medical brilliance, it is an act of humanity that truly defines this story. When Shri Dev Murti, Chairman, SRMS Trust, learned that Riddhima’s family couldn’t afford the treatment, he ensured she receives world-class care free of cost. No bills, no burden—only hope & healing. Well, this is testament to SRMS IMS’s legacy of saving lives with expertise, compassion & endless commitment to humanity.
