Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Paramedical Sciences (SRMS IPS), Bareilly recently organized a ‘Molecular Lab Visit’ for the students of Paramedical from respective branches, wherein they were taken for a molecular lab tour by Dr Jaspreet Kaur, Principal IPS, to make them aware of importance of molecular diagnostics in healthcare for solving the real-world issues. During the lab tour, Dr Jaspreet was accompanied by Dharmendra Gusain, in-charge MLT Department & Aman Abrar, Assistant Professor at IPS.
It was an enriching tour for paramedics, who were taken to different rooms of the lab like Extraction room, Master Mix room, Template room & Amplification room, and were briefed about lab’s mandates & uses of sophisticated instruments. During the visit, students were also given practical demonstration of Real Time PCR Machine & Conventional PCR Machine with manual as well as robotic control. Soon after, a detailed description was given to students about the connection of diseases to genes and process of Transcription, Translation, Gene Sequencing, Primer Designing & Master Mix Preparation.
Later, Dr Jaspreet Kaur said, “Molecular diagnostics has been proving to be crucial in the ‘precision’ & ‘personalized’ medical revolution in healthcare. There are aspects related to cancer therapy where molecular diagnostics show significant contribution. However, the purpose of such educational visits is to go beyond academics, capacitating the students to upgrade their skills, using new concepts, and providing an insight on the practical applications”.
One of the BMLT students, Subodh Gupta, Batch 2020 says, “I found the molecular lab visit very informative & interesting. I learnt about the growth of tumors & mutational analysis, which helped me comprehend the role of Bioinformatics in predicting disease course, selecting treatments and monitor the effectiveness of therapies”.
