SRMS PARAMEDICAL ALUMNUS SHARED INSIGHTS ON BLOOD BANK TECHNIQUES

The Department of Medical Lab Technology (MLT) at SRMS Institute of Paramedical Sciences (IPS), Bareilly organized an Alumni Guest Lecture on the topic ‘Blood Bank Techniques’ recently, which was delivered by the Keynote Speaker, Ankit Kumar, an Alumnus of SRMS IPS, who is currently working as a Lab Technician at Community Health Centre (CHC), Nawabganj. The host of the event was Kritika Pandey, Vice-President of Vibrant Club, SRMS IPS.

The program kicked-off with the welcoming of guest with a plant sapling presented by Dr Ashish Chauhan (PT), Vice Principal, SRMS IPS, in the presence of Javed Siddique, Chief Proctor & In-charge, Department of MLT, along with other faculty members and students. During the lecture, Ankit Kumar gave an overview on the importance of blood bank, the role it plays in healthcare, and also described the process of collecting, storing, and testing blood samples along with adopting quality control measures in a blood bank, and the need for strict adherence to safety protocols. He then went on to explain various blood bank techniques such as blood grouping and cross-matching, blood component separation, and blood transfusion procedures. During the session, he also shared his practical experience of working in a blood bank and the challenges faced by blood bank technicians.

Overall, the lecture was informative and engaging that provided an excellent opportunity to the students to get a real-world perspective from the expert in the field. Speaking about the same, one of the BMLT students, Faiyaz Ahmed, Batch 2019, who attended the lecture, said, “It was a valuable experience to interact directly to a skilled practitioner in the field, who taught us about the genetics of ABO-Rh and how blood groups are formed.”.
