The Department of Pediatrics & Neonatology at SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Bareilly observed Thalassemia Day on May 8, 2023 with immense enthusiasm.Based on this year’s theme, “Be Aware. Share. Care: Strengthening Education to Bridge the Thalassemia Care Gap”, the event began with a panel discussion held by specialized doctors, followed by Q&A session, wherein various queries of the patients & parents were answered. Important information about Thalassemia was also delivered by the expert panelist, which was knowledge-driven and an eye-
opener.
The Chief Guest of the event was Aditya Murti, Director Administration, SRMS IMS, who shared words of wisdom and raised awareness on this genetic disorder, in the presence of Air Marshal Dr MS Butola, Principal SRMS IMS; Dr RP Singh, Medical Superintendent; Dr CM Chaturvedi, Deputy Medical Superintendent; Dr Milan Jaiswal, Professor& HOD of Department of Transfusion Medicine; Dr PL Prasad, Ex- HOD Dept. of Pediatrics; Dr Surabhi Chandra, Professor & HOD Dept. of Pediatrics; Dr Anita Kumari, Professor, Dept. of Pediatrics & many Thalassemia affected children & their parents. Later, Dr MS Butola initiated a short fun-filled activity for Thalassemia kids, which was wonderfully organized by the undergraduate students of SRMS IMS.
The program concluded with a mini celebration for Thalassemia-affected kids and their parents that included cake cutting ceremony along with recreational dance by residents & patients. This was followed by gift distribution and vote of thanks, which was delivered by Professor Dr Surabhi Chandra.
