World Aids Day

The Department of Community Medicine at SRMS IMS, Bareilly marked World Aids Day on the theme ‘Equalize’, which is celebrated every year worldwide on December 1 since 1988, dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV Infection and mourning those who have died of the disease.
Contributing towards the noble cause, various activities were organized in collaboration with Institute of Paramedical Sciences and College of Nursing in SRMS IMS campus under the guidance of Dr Huma Khan. The idea was to disseminate AIDS education to local community by means of placards and banners, on its prevention and control.
HUMAN CHAIN FORMED & RALLY PROCESSION
A rally procession took place from SRMS IMS to Bhojipura Railway Station, and back to SRMS IMS, which saw participation of over 500 students of MBBS, Paramedical and Nursing wearing ‘red ribbon’ as Aids symbol. A huge human chain was formed in the shape of a log of World Aids Day. The rally was flagged-off by Dr SB Gupta, Principal, SRMS IMS; Dr RP Singh, MS; Dr Neelima Mehrotra, Dean UG; Dr Dharmendra Kumar Gupta, Associate Professor in the presence of Dr Ruchi Arun; Dr Sugandhi Sharma; Ravi Mishra; Richa Mishra; Javed, SRMSIPS; Rishil Sharma and Hafeez Ahmad, MSW; Harendra Pal Singh; Pooja Yadav; Akshay Kumar, Department of Community Medicine; Vineet Verma, Marketing Manager and students of Connexus Club. Dr IA Khan, Patient Care Manager was instrumental in smooth conduction of the rally.
NUKKAD NATAK
A ‘nukkad natak’ was also performed by students of SRMS IPS at the front lawn of hospital emergency, wherein large gathering was educated regarding HIV/AIDS, and awareness was spread highlighting about the inequalities that drive AIDS. Dr Abhinav Pandey, Javed (SRMSIPS), Dr Abhijeet (PG), Dr Nandini, Dr Nikhita (Interns) and MSWs coordinated the activity. Also, knowledge regarding modes of transmission, symptoms of HIV/AIDS and from where treatment is available was also reflected through the act. Patients were made aware about the integrated counseling and training centre and ART facilities available at SRMS hospital.
