How often can B School students boast of visiting the offices of a world renowned newspaper? SRMS IBS offered its students the privilege as it organized an industrial visit to Times Of India, Lucknow. While the first year students from the institute visited the offices of the esteemed organization on the 3rd of December; second year students had their moment in the spotlight with the reputed media house on 10th December.
The B School does its best to acquaint its students with the functioning of organizations in different sectors. They can thus understand the practical implications of the concepts they learn in the classroom. These visits aimed to offer students a slice of life experience of how the newspaper industry operates. And what better organization to get the insight from than TOI that has led the way for media in the country.
Mr. Arvind Tewari and Mr. J N Singh from the Times Of India group shared their experiences with the students. Right at the onset they made their visitors aware of all the processes involved in the running of a newspaper organization. It was interesting to see how efficiently all processes like assimilation of news, articles and advertisement to handing over the news paper to readers, are carried out on a daily basis.
They also talked to the students about the market size of the media industry and growth rate. The visit was highly relevant for the students because they were informed about the opportunities they have in the media industry as future management professionals. Media, especially the newspaper business, is appealing to many but is often shrouded with mystery. The industry visit offered students of SRMS IBS an insider’s perspective into the dynamic business of news.
