A Homage Paid to Two Leaders of the Nation-the Great Mahatma and Shri Ram Murti Ji on 2nd October 2019

On 2 October, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi and International Day of Non-Violence, SRMS Trust observed the 31st death anniversary of Shri Ram Murti Ji at a commemoration program organized in SRMS College of Engineering & Technology, Bareilly. The Trust also paid homage to Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary.

The program started by paying tribute to Shri Ram Murti Ji , with a the bhajan ‘Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kaahiye’ by Ruchi Sharma, while students of SRMS College of Engineering & Technology (Bareilly), SRMS College of Engineering, Technology & Research (Bareilly), SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (Bareilly), and SRMS College of Nursing (Bareilly) presented a selection of devotional songs.

Prof. Ashish Kumar, SRMSCET, Bareilly spoke about freedom fighter, former Uttar Pradesh minister, and former parliamentarian Shri Ram Murti Ji. How, at a young age, Shri Murti went to prison inspired by the love for his motherland, how he continued the fight against the British, and why Mahatma Gandhi was his lifetime ideal and inspiration.

Mr. Dev Murti Ji (Chairman, SRMS Trust) paid homage to his father and spoke about the contribution of Shri Ram Murti SmarakTrust which was established in 1990. Promoting education and research in engineering and technology, medicine, the humanities, science, and management, the Trust engages in a range of social and charitable activities.

Today, Shri Dev Murti Ji also launched a mobile app named Kshitij. SRMS trust also adopted a village Prahladpur. So that trust can improve sanitation, education and also make people aware about medicinal facilities. Shri Dev Murti Ji also launched Medical Umbrella camp so that patient can get better medicinal facilities.

The Trust offers scholarships worth INR 3 crores to meritorious students. It also encourages creative pursuits by organizing competitions in debating, story writing, and other activities. The Trust has had significant achievements in medicine, with initiatives like hospital-on-wheel (since 2015) and mobile telemedicine bus (since 2017) providing medical treatment facilities. The Trust has established a charitable school and offers free vocational training to the underprivileged youth, medical services, and pharmacy facilities. Mr Murti also shared the Trust’s vision for the future. Among other initiatives, a Think Lab will be established to fund innovative projects and a Heal and Care centre will be started in Lucknow.

Since 1993 the Trust annually honours eminent personalities who have made the nation proud with their achievements with Ram Murti Pratibha Alaknaran Award. This year Dr. Sunil Pradhan (Indian neurologist), Kavita Seth (Indian Singer), Gratian Vas( Author ) were honored with Ram Murti Pratibha Alaknaran Award on 2nd October.

On this special occasion, SRMS Trust awarded scholarships worth INR 3 crores to 739 students. This corpus of scholarships is one of the largest by a single trust in India. Also, prizes were given to the winners of the debate and story writing competitions. The commemoration program came to an end with Er. Subhash Mehra (Administrator, SRMS Trust) delivering the Vote of Thanks.
