A Homage Paid to Two Leaders of the Nation-the Great Mahatma and Shri Ram Murti Ji on 2nd October, 2017

October 2 is an important day at SRMS CET campus for more reasons than one. Besides being the birthday of the Father of the Nation, 2nd October is considered of paramount importance by SRMS-ians as it was the day of demise of Shri Ram Murti ji in the year 1988. It is observed tribute ceremony for both these remarkable individuals for who they have been and for their contribution to the country at large.

A staunch follower of Gandhi ji and an ardent freedom fighter, Shri Ram Murti ji has been inspired by Mahatma Gandhi ever since he could remember. He was jailed several times during the Indian freedom struggle and was sentenced to Kaal Kotri for two months. A true Gandhian in every possible way, 2nd October becomes extremely significant in the SRMS community every year.

The morning began with the flag hoisting ceremony by Chairman Shri Dev Murti. Followed by a chorus of the national anthem. Students joined their voices in a melodious tune in the memory of the Father of the nation and the second Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri, followed by Shri Dev Murti lighting the lamp and welcoming the dignitaries to the event. The day saw Mr. Prem Prakash Aggarwal, Prof. Anil Shukla, Dr. A.P. Singh who have been close to Shri Ram Murti ji as his friends and compatriots attend the ceremony. They shared with the audience late Shri Ram Murti ji’s experiences and philosophies of life and transported the audience to the pre-
independence world through their words.

It had all began in the year 1990 with a handful of 11 students. With the steady, consistent effort of the Murti family, the SRMS community today stands to be one of the respected, prestigious and formidable educational institutions of the nation. 735 students draw over 2 crores of scholarship every year and innumerable CSR initiatives keep getting added to the school’s list of activities annually.

2nd October became even more special when Prof Anil Shukla, Honorable Vice chancellor, MJPRU, Bareilly participated in the bhajanas offered as a tribute to the freedom fighters by the students of SRMS IMS, SRMS CET and SRMS CETR.

Thereafter, Shri Dev Murti ji shared with the audience the initiatives taken by the SRMS Group to make the world a better place to live in. He talked about the latest introduction of the Group to make education available to everyone- the All India Talent Scholarships for Research and Development, a scholarship worth Rs. 5 lacs. Beside that, the year saw initiatives such as Hospital on Wheels, Cricket Academy, etc. to help foster the culture of health and wisdom in the
society. The Group has bigger and broader plans in pipeline as well. The Satellite Telemedicine Center will be inaugurated on 23rd December, 2017 in which 5th generation antibiotics will be made available for the patients, chains of multispecialty hospitals across Bareilly and Lucknow will start operating and table tennis academy for students shall be made available in the city.

While the event was going full-swing, a blood donation camp was also running in sync to it. Furthermore, a special award was given to Mr. Anant Bhatnagar for leading and winning the under 14 Cricket tournament this year.
