I feel lucky to be a part of the process.”
True blue academic with passion for research
Dr. Gupta had done his M. Sc in Mathematics before opting for M. Phil and PhD from Aligarh Muslim University. The National Board for Higher Mathematics, Government of Maharashtra appreciated his research and awarded him the post-doctoral fellowship, which took him to IIT Kanpur. He takes us through the prolific journey by saying, “Research is crucial for academics because through it you meet people and make new discoveries. My research was on convex optimization, which is branch of advanced analysis that lets us make better decisions.”
The decision of joining hands with SRMS
It’s evident that Dr. Gupta’s research has practical applications for students and the industry on the whole. For him, working with SRMS was a practical decision as well because he thinks it is the right place for him to continue his teaching and research too. “The aspects of SRMS that appeal to me are its positive environment, innovative thinking, practical approach and time management. I am efficient with research and teaching, and the environment of SRMS is positive and energetic, which makes us the perfect fit for each other,” he says with a smile.
Boosting classroom engagement and the overall learning experience
Dr. Gupta asserts that he always prepares his presentations in advance and has a few examples handy before he heads to the classroom. He believes that preparation through research, interaction with academics in India and abroad is crucial to offering a sound learning experience to the students. “Besides college hours I have a daily routine for updating my knowledge through online research, listening to lectures on NPTL to enhance classroom engagement. As an academic you need to take the initiative to bring something new to the classroom,” he declares.
