Riddhima—A Centre of Performing and Fine Arts, affiliated to Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh (Chhattisgarh) organized a grand and much-awaited 2nd Theatre Festival in town—‘INDRADHANUSH—Rang Mahotsav 2022’, from November 01-06, wherein six plays were showcased by renowned theatre groups from all over India, namely Mumbai, Delhi, Dehradun and Kolkata.
Giving a kick-start to the theatre fest, the first play exhibited at SRMS Riddhima on Day-1 was a hilarious courtroom drama titled ‘Man Disposes, God Proposes’, which was a Day Dreamers Foundation Presentation from Mumbai. Adapted and Directed by Saleem Shah, the play was a Hindi adaptation of John Mortimer’s Comic drama ‘Dock-Brief’ that was loved by Bareilly’s theatre buffs.
The play was about Himaqat Qureshi and his wife Kahkashan who were not exactly ‘made for each other’. While she was fun loving and had a great sense of humor, he was devoid of it and detested her keenness to enjoy life. In the play, he tried to get her out of life, but failed, and finally murdered her. All the evidence was against him, and he was sure to be convicted, but this was the point when entered an advocate, Kamal Kant Tripathi, a small time and consistent loser (all his life) ‘affidavit making’ lawyer, who was assigned to fight Himaqat Qureshi’s case. In the play, the lawyer had been portrayed as the one waiting and wanting to get that ‘one case’ to get famous. And thereafter began the craziest and funniest ‘never-seen-before’ courtroom drama, which left the viewers in splits, as both realized that they were each other’s last hope.
Sanjeevani, one of the audiences seated, said, “The play was quite interesting and engaging. The performances of the artists, especially the lawyer, were amazing. Overall, the play was very hilarious, and had fun elements in between that kept us engrossed till the end.”
