On 15 September, SRMS celebrated Engineers’ Day and paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on his birth anniversary. There were two programmes at two locations – one at SRMS CET, Bareilly, the other at SRMS CET, Unnao.
The programme, held at Shri Ram Murti Centennial Auditorium within the campus of SRMS CET, Bareilly, was attended by Mr. Dev Murti (Chairman, SRMS Trust), Mr. Aditya Murti (Secretary, SRMS Trust), Dr. Prabhakar Gupta (Professor, Computer Science and Dean, Academics, SRMS CET, Bareilly), faculty members, and students. The traditional lamp lighting ceremony was followed by a tribute to Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Mementos were presented to the Chairman and the guests Mr. Govind Reddy and Mr. Debendra Nayak. Then there was a presentation on Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya highlighting his life and his many achievements.
In his speech, Dr. Prabhakar Gupta encouraged the future engineers from SRMS CET, Bareilly to strive for more and achieve greater things in life. Mr. Debendra Nayak (Head, HR, Rane Madras Ltd., Rudrapur) advised the students to develop a positive attitude, keep improving on skills, and always aim for better performance. Mr. Govind Reddy (Former Plant Head, Dabur India Ltd., Rudrapur) said an engineer having a positive outlook is able to create solutions that can benefit a large number of people. In their speeches, Mr. Aditya Murti encouraged the development of new skills and entrepreneurship and Mr. Dev Murti inspired students to embrace the mission to do something great and make their country and alma mater proud. Then Mr. Dev Murti and the guests presented Best Engineer Awards to Shivam Seth (SRMS CET) and Anshita Agarwal (SRMS CETR). The day at SRMS CET, Bareilly ended in high spirits with the budding engineers getting inspired to try and excel in their personal and professional lives.
The Engineers’ Day celebrations at SRMS CET, Unnao revolved around the theme ‘Engineering Challenges for the Knowledge Era’. The day started with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony, which was followed by the Welcome Address by Dr. Anant Srivastava (Principal, SRMS CET, Unnao). The chief guest was Mr. Ravi Verma (Founder and Director, RV Industries, Kanpur). Introducing himself and sharing his professional experience, Mr. Verma motivated the students to work hard and think for the future. He advised the young learners to nurture ideas and to try to be innovative in whatever they pursue in life.
The programme, organized by student club Oasis, also included a poster model and quiz competition based on the Engineers’ Day theme. The team comprising final-year students Durga Prasad Singh and Sunetra Pathak from the Department of Electronics and Communication won the quiz competition while Sonam Agrahari (2nd year, Computer Science) won the poster competition. For the academic session 2017-18, Durga Prasad Singh (2015 batch, Electronics and Communication) received the Best Engineer Award. The day at SRMS CET, Unnao ended with the thought that the life and work of the great Indian engineer and nation-builder Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya will continue to inspire everyone in times to come.
