The World Immunization Week was celebrated at SRMS-IMS from 24th – 30th April 2019. The theme of the World Immunization Week this year was Protected Together: Vaccines Work! Our aim was to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against diseases.
In the year 2012, the WHO endorsed the idea to celebrate Immunization week every year in order to raise awareness regards the vaccine preventable diseases. Immunization saves millions of lives every year and is widely recognized as one of the most successful and cost-effective health interventions. Yet, still there are nearly 20 million unvaccinated and under-vaccinated children in the world today. Keeping this in mind, and following our commitment towards building a society of healthy children, the Department of Pediatrics, SRMS IMS Bareilly planned a week long activities during the World Immunization Week.
A talk on awareness on various aspects of immunization — routine immunization, catch up immunization, adolescent and adult immunization was given in Urban Health Centre of this College and also in rural health Centre of the College on two different days. More than 100 parents participated in the talk on each day.
A poster Competition on the theme of World Immunization Week was organized during the week. Undergraduate Medical students participated and the best poster was awarded with a trophy and certificate to motivate students.
