After M. Tech. in Computer Science and getting a PhD from the reputed Delhi University, you would expect a professional to opt for a lucrative career in the industry. But Dr. Saurabh Agarwal turned his attention towards academics. An esteemed member of Computer Science department at SRMS CET, Bareilly he explains the reasoning behind his decision. “Yes professionals in Computer Science field get higher packages. But I don’t want to work only for money. I aim for personal satisfaction that I get from teaching,” he says passionately.
What does SRMS have to offer?
When you make a big decision in your career like Dr. Agarwal has, you want to make sure it leads to a successful and rewarding path. How does SRMS fit into his goals and what made him choose the institution over the others? He ponders deeply before answering, “It is a renowned college in the region and the management is focused on discipline. We have the best faculty members and staff, which means that there is constant knowledge sharing. Besides that it offers strong support for research, which was crucial for me.”
Why research and industry go hand in hand
Dr. Agarwal had already worked with SRMS for a couple of years before he started pursuing his PhD with DU. Today he continues his research in the field of image forgery detection, which seems to be the need of our times. He appreciates the support his college offers him for research and ensures that it reflects in classroom learning for students too. “Research is important because it leads to latest technology that is implemented in the industry. In India, researchers have to work closely with the industry to get best results. It is a norm in foreign countries,” he elaborates
Offering best learning experience to students
He is of the opinion that his research background allows him to keep students abreast with the latest technologies in the industry. Dr. Agarwal also believes that for every concept there is a real life example. If you can find that example, you will make things relatable to students. About his classroom preparations he says, “I try and associate with students on project work. When we collaborate on a project, they learn about the latest research and can implement it. I also work on research papers with alumni, and find this exchange stimulating. It also helps students with placements thanks to the practical exposure they get.”
