With an aim to raise awareness about environmental issues and encourage collective action to protect our planet, WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY was observed on June 5, 2023 at various SRMS Trust Institutions respectively, namely, SRMS IMS, SRMS IPS, SRMS CET, SRMS College of Nursing, SRMS CETR etc on the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.

The event began with welcoming Shri Dev Murti, Chairman SRMS Trust in the presence of Air Marshal Dr MS Butola, Principal SRMS IMS; Lt. Col. RP Singh, Medical Superintendent, SRMS IMS; Professor Rintu Chaturvedi, Principal, SRMS College OF Nursing; Dr Arti Gupta, Director Pharmacy; Dr LS Maurya, Principal CETR; Aneesh Chandran, Vice Principal SRMS College of Nursing & other dignitaries.

The Department of Community Medicine at SRMS IMS coordinated several fruitful activities, campaigns & initiatives like Tree Plantation Drive, which was organized to promote reforestation and mitigate climate change, wherein several doctors of IMS along with Pradhan of adopted villages (Prahladpur, Ghangora-Ghangori, Parsunagla, Miapur, Dhimmi, Dhaura Tanda), MSWs & volunteers planted saplings in designated areas & community spaces. To address the issue of litter & waste management, Plastic Clean-Up Campaign was initiated on the theme ‘No plastic-less paper day’, wherein MBBS students exhibited posters on different themes to highlight environment conservation & sustainable practices. A Small Portion Serving activity took place to ensure less food wastage, where in lunch at hospital mess & hostels were served in small portions. Later, Awareness Sessions on the ban of single use plastic were also conducted among patients and attendants. Joining the brigade, the Pharmquimica Club of SRMS CET organized poster presentation & plantation drive, wherein 16 medicinal plants were planted in the herbal garden. Joining in the celebrations, a seminar was conducted by BSc third-year Nursing students, followed by PPT presentation, Mime and ‘Jam Just a Minute’ competition, which added to the celebrations.
