“नशा मुक्त युवा, विकसित भारत”: SRMS INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES STRENGTHENS the FIGHT AGAINST SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Reinforcing its commitment to a healthier and addiction-free society, the Department of Psychiatry at SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Bareilly, organized ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva, Viksit Bharat’ as part of the Government of India’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, launched in 2020.

The awareness programme focused on the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of substance abuse, bringing together faculty members, resident doctors, psychologists, interns, patients and their families for an interactive and impactful session. The event featured an awareness talk highlighting the harmful effects of substance abuse, followed by a human chain formed by Junior Residents, Senior Residents, psychologists and faculty members in the presence of patients and their relatives, symbolizing a collective pledge towards a drug-free India.

Adding a powerful human perspective to the programme, patients undergoing treatment and those on the path to recovery courageously shared their personal journeys, speaking about the challenges they faced, the positive transformation in their lives, and the renewed hope experienced by their families through timely treatment and continuous support. The programme concluded with an engaging Q&A session, Group Discussion and Problem-Solving Session, encouraging meaningful dialogue and spreading awareness about early intervention and recovery.

The event was conducted under the supervision of Dr Deepak Charan, Professor & Head, Department of Psychiatry, SRMS IMS, in the presence of faculty members, resident doctors, psychologists and interns, reaffirming SRMS IMS’s commitment to supporting the national vision of a Nasha Mukt Yuva, Viksit Bharat.
