SHRI RAM MURTI SMARAK HOSPITAL & MEDICAL COLLEGE OBSERVES ‘WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY’: DOCTORS & BUDDING MEDICOS LEAD THE CHARGE IN RAISING AWARENESS ON TOBACCO’S HARMFUL IMPACT ON YOUTH!
In a dedicated effort to combat tobacco use, the Department of Radiation Oncology at Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences (SRMS IMS), Bareilly observed World No Tobacco Day (May 31) with engaging activities, initiatives and awareness sessions, underscoring the severe health risks & lifelong consequences of tobacco addiction among youth people.
Centered on year 2024 theme ‘Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference’, the day featured an insightful address by Dr Piyush Kumar, Professor & Head, Department of Radiation Oncology, SRMS IMS, wherein he stressed upon the dire need to promote awareness against tobacco use & embrace healthier choices. An Oath-taking ceremony took place, where attendees pledged to ‘Quit Tobacco’. An enriching talk on abandoning tobacco was delivered by Dr Sanyamita Jain, JR-3, along with spellbound poetry by JR-1 Dr Misha, Department of Radiation Oncology. Dr Prachi Upadhyay, Assistant Professor shed light on detrimental impact of tobacco industry on kids & youth. Dr RP Singh, Medical Superintendent spoke on severe health risks associated with tobacco, such as cancer, respiratory diseases & heart conditions, in the presence of Dr CM Chaturvedi, Deputy Medical Superintendent. Air Marshal Dr MS Butola, Principal IMS also emphasized on particular vulnerability of youth to addiction & long-term consequences of early tobacco use.
The major attraction was Nukkad Natak performed by residents of Radiation Oncology Department, who depicted the transformative journey of two children addicted to tobacco, showcasing their struggles & ultimate triumph in overcoming addiction, which further stressed upon efforts needed for a tobacco-free world, with stricter tobacco control policies.
