WHEN EVERY DOOR CLOSED, SRMS INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES OPENED A NEW LIFE: RAJAT’S MIRACLE BRAIN SURGERY JOURNEY

Eighteen-year-old Rajat Joshi from Uttarakhand was like any other teenager; with dreams in his eyes, but life took a sudden turn. Headaches that wouldn’t stop, constant vomiting, unsteady steps, and double vision in one eye began to steal his normalcy.

From Dehradun to Delhi, Rajat and his family knocked on every possible door—AIIMS, Max, and several other leading hospitals, but hope seemed to fade. Until they came to SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Bareilly, where the hope met expertise. After a thorough evaluation, doctors at SRMS IMS discovered the root cause, a large Posterior Fossa Tumor dangerously attached to the brainstem (pons). A location so critical that even the slightest surgical error could lead to paralysis or worse.

Led by Dr Praveen Kumar Tripathi, Associate Professor, Department of Neurosurgery, a highly complex and rare brainstem tumor surgery was performed using a minimal craniotomy approach. Against all odds, the entire tumor was successfully removed without a single complication.

“Operating near the brainstem is like defusing a bomb, which demands absolute precision,” says Dr Tripathi. “But with the right team, cutting-edge tools, and trust in the process, we made it possible. Today, just a month after surgery, Rajat is walking, smiling, and dreaming again.” He and his family say they found not just treatment at SRMS IMS, but a second chance at life.
