‘WHEN BLOOD DIDN’T MATCH, LOVE DID’: SWAP KIDNEY TRANSPLANT AT SRMS INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES GIVES TWO FAMILIES A NEW LEASE OF LIFE!

A Life-Saving Swap: A Mother’s Gift of Humanity, Beyond Blood!

It’s not every day that love rewrites medical boundaries. But when hope seemed to fade for two young men battling kidney failure, SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Bareilly stepped in with something extraordinary, a life-saving Swap Kidney Transplant that became a tale of unmatched compassion, resilience, and a mother’s timeless promise.

This isn’t a textbook case. This is real life, raw and miraculous!
Prashant Kumar (27), a spirited youth from Bareilly, and Umesh Kumar (25), a quiet dreamer from Pilibhit, were both grappling with kidney failure. Their mothers, Geeta Devi and Lakshmi were willing to donate, no questions asked. But fate had a twist as their blood groups didn’t match their own sons.

For many, that would have been the end of the road. But at SRMS IMS, where empathy meets expertise, Dr (Prof) Sanjay Kumar, Consultant Nephrologist and Kidney Transplant Physician saw another way, a Kidney Exchange. Geeta matched Umesh, Lakshmi matched Prashant. What couldn’t be done biologically, was made possible emotionally.

The transplant was a success. Nearly 10 months on, both young men are healthy, dialysis-free, and full of life. Their mothers remain the quiet heroines, whose selfless love crossed bloodlines.

On World Organ Donation Day (Aug 13), through its Angdaan – Jeevan Sanjeevani Abhiyaan and under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, SRMS IMS continues its commitment to accessible, advanced care, showing that hope lives not just in hospitals and tearful waiting halls, but in the unshakeable courage of mothers.

Watch their journey—because sometimes, love saves lives before science does!
