SRMS CET&R Faculty Development Programme ‘’Matlab and its Application in Engineering”

adminEvents, News Highlight

NEED AND MOTIVATION:

The main objective of this training program is to provide the Engineers with an opportunity to improve their programming skills using the MATLAB environment to implement algorithms and to use MATLAB as a tool in solving Control engineering, Vibration and Numerical problems. This training program covers the basics of MATLAB and application of MATLAB to solve problems in Engineering such as: Control systems, Mechanical Vibration and Numerical equations

OBJECTIVE:

The objectives of the FDP program are as under:

  • The FDP aims at providing research stimulus to keen learners comprising scholars, academicians and practitioners.
  • To provide a forum to exchange views, ideas & the latest innovations in the field of Matlab –Simulink Environment.
  • To offer learning on basics, emerging trends & challenges in the field of Signal Processing Toolbox.
  • To introduce Image Processing and to provide opportunities to further widen the knowledge and to pursue research.

OVERVIEW:

The name MATLAB stands for MATrix LABoratory. MATLAB was written originally to provide easy access to matrix software developed by the LINPACK (linear system package) and EISPACK (Eigen system package) projects. MATLAB and Simulink are widely used across industries for research and product development, so researchers can apply their research to interesting and challenging real-world examples. MATLAB (MATrix LABoratory) is a multi-paradigm numerical computing environment and proprietary programming language developed by math works. MATLAB allows matrix manipulations, plotting of functions and data, implementation of algorithms, creation of user interfaces, and interfacing with programs written in other languages, including C, C++, C#, Java, Fortran and Python. MATLAB is an indispensable asset for scientists, researchers, and engineers. The richness of the MATLAB computational environment combined with an integrated development environment (IDE) and straight forward interface, toolkits, and simulation and modeling capabilities, creates a research and development tool that has no equal. From quick code prototyping to full-blown deployable applications, MATLAB stands as a de facto development language and environment serving the technical needs of a wide range of users.

MATLAB has many advantages compared to conventional computer languages (e.g., C, FORTRAN) for solving technical problems. MATLAB is an interactive system whose basic data element is an array that does not require dimensioning. The software package has been commercially available since 1984 and is now considered as a standard tool at most universities and industries worldwide.
It has powerful built-in routines that enable a very wide variety of computations. It also has easy to use graphics commands that make the visualization of results immediately available. Specific applications are collected in packages referred to as toolbox. There are toolboxes for signal processing, symbolic computation, control theory, simulation, optimization, and several other fields of applied science and engineering.
