In a world chasing ‘more’, students at SRMS College of Engineering, Technology & Research (CET&R), Bareilly hit pause to question — does materialism really lead to fulfilment?
Recently, the CS Seminar Hall buzzed with bold ideas and powerful speeches during a Declamation Competition themed “Materialism’s Futile Quest for Fulfilment.” The event wasn’t just another competition; it was part of a global conversation and a movement, commemorating the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace and aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16.
Students from across SRMS Trust Institutions took the stage, dissecting society's obsession with material wealth and offering fresh perspectives on what truly brings lasting contentment. The message was loud and clear—happiness can't be bought; it’s found in purpose, peace, and connection.
Adding weight to the event were distinguished guests like Er Subhash Mehra, Trust Advisor, and Dr Shailesh Saxena, Dean Academics, SRMS CET&R, whose presence inspired participants to bring their A-game. The competition was evaluated by an esteemed panel including Lakhendra Kumar Chhokar, Principal, SRMS College of Law; Dr Shailendra Kumar Singh, Professor, Basic Science; & Dr Shivank Chaudhary, DSW, SRMSIPS. Towards the end, winners were felicitated, wherein, Shambhavi Singh (SRMS IMS) stood First and wowed the judges with her sharp analysis and magnetic delivery. Vedika Chaudhary (SRMS Nursing) impressed with her thought-provoking take on the topic as Runner-Up
Beyond honing their oratory skills, students walked away with a deeper appreciation for values that foster personal growth and global harmony. The event also strengthened SRMS Trust’s commitment to integrating sustainable development principles across its institutions.
