WHEN THE HEART PAUSED, SRMS INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES MADE HISTORY: ROHILKHAND’S FIRST WIRELESS PACEMAKER SAVES A LIFE…

This procedure of using Wireless Pacemaker is the first-of-its-kind case in Rohilkhand, and only 3rd in UP, which was successfully performed by Dr Deepesh Agarwal (Interventional Cardiologist, SRMS IMS)

It began with moments that were easy to dismiss at first. Sudden grey outs. Brief losses of consciousness. But for the patient, those few seconds felt like slipping away without warning. Each episode brought uncertainty, fear, and the question of what was really going wrong.

When the patient, Subhash Mandhan, 78 years, arrived at SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Bareilly, the doctor looked beyond the obvious. After careful evaluation, the underlying cause revealed itself as cardioinhibitory carotid hypersensitivity syndrome with long sinus pause, a condition where the heart pauses unexpectedly, leading to syncope. In this case, those pauses were long enough to make every second critical.

It was not a routine situation, and it needed more than a routine solution, beyond conventional. And that’s where experience met breakthrough. Under the expertise of Professor Dr Deepesh Agarwal, Interventional Cardiologist, Department of Cardiology, SRMS IMS, the decision was made to use a Wireless Pacemaker, a relatively new, highly advanced and minimally invasive technique. It meant choosing precision, innovation, and a path that had rarely been taken in the region. And the outcome was more than just medical success.

At SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences, such cases are not seen as challenges alone, but as opportunities to push the boundaries of care. Because sometimes, saving a life is not just about treating a condition. It is about giving someone back the simple assurance that the next moment will come, steady and uninterrupted.
