WHEN EVERY SECOND COUNTS, HOPE IS NOW CLOSER THAN EVER: SRMS INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES’ BRINGS the REGION’S FIRST ECMO BETWEEN DELHI & LUCKNOW

When even the most advanced ventilator is no longer enough, ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), becomes the bridge between hope and recovery, giving life another chance to breathe…
With the region’s first-of-its-kind ECMO facility between Delhi and Lucknow, SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Bareilly brings one of the world’s most advanced life-support system and live-saving technologies, offering world-class critical care closer to home, ensuring families no longer have to travel hundreds of kilometers during their most difficult moments.
However, ECMO represents a new level of emergency care, and takes over the function of the heart and lungs, buying precious time for vital organs to heal, recover, and await for transplantation & helping doctors’ save lives.
It can be life-saving in cases of:
- Life-threatening cardiac emergencies: Sudden heart failure & cardiac arrest
- Severe respiratory failure, Lung infections: ARDS & critical pneumonia
- Severe poisoning/ chemical ingestion due to pesticides (celphos), toxic chemicals (paraquat) & other life-threatening substances
- Pre-Transplant support: Keeping patients stable, requiring support before or during organ transplantation
Speaking on this milestone, Dr. Lalit Singh, Professor & Head, Department of Respiratory & Critical Care Medicine, SRMS IMS, says, “A medical emergency is stressful enough. The last thing any family should worry about is travelling to another city in search of advanced treatment. With ECMO, we can now offer hope and survival closer to home when conventional treatment is no longer enough. This milestone reflects the vision of Shri Dev Murti, Chairman, SRMS Trust, and Aditya Murti, Director Administration, to bring world-class healthcare closer to our region & community.”
