SRMS INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES LEAD AWARENESS DRIVE ON GLAUCOMA: DR NEELIMA MEHROTRA STRESSES EARLY DETECTION & PREVENTION!

In observance of World Glaucoma Day (on March 12) and World Glaucoma Week (March 9-15), SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Bareilly is spearheading a vital initiative to raise awareness about this ‘silent thief of sight’. In this regard, we speak to Dr Neelima Mehrotra, Professor & Head Department of Ophthalmology at SRMS IMS, who emphasizes upon the critical importance of early detection, regular eye checkups, and preventive care in combating glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide.
“Glaucoma often progresses unnoticed until significant vision loss occurs. That’s why awareness and timely intervention are crucial”, says Dr Neelima. She highlights that regular eye screenings, especially for high-risk individuals, can help detect glaucoma early and prevent permanent damage.
Throughout the week (from March 9-15), SRMS IMS is hosting educational sessions, eye screenings, and expert consultations to ensure the community understands the impact of glaucoma and the power of proactive eye care. Let’s pledge to prioritize our vision—because early detection saves sight!
