The successful continuation of 6-day long grand theatre festival ‘INDRADHANUSH—RANG MAHOTSAV 2022’ conducted by and at Riddhima—A Centre of Performing and Fine Arts, affiliated to Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh (Chhattisgarh), has reached to DAY-5 with the showcasing of their fifth play on November 05, 2022 titled ‘SLEUTH’, a presentation by Eklavya Theatre Group, Dehradun.
A 1970 play written by Anthony Shaffer, and directed by Akhilesh Narain, the play is based on Kunwar Jaideep Singh, role played by Director himself, who is a mystery writer, and insanely rich person. The play reflects the obsession of this successful mystery writer with the inventions and deceptions of fiction and his fascination with games and game-playing. The play reaches to an engaging point where he lures his wife’s lover to the house and convinces him to stage a robbery of her jewellery—a proposal that sets off a chain of events that leaves the audience trying to decipher where his imagination ends and reality begins. Later, he gets his wife’s lover trapped in such series of events, and shoots him while plotting a story.
The play ‘Sleuth’ performed in 1970 won many accolades for its outstanding performance, and was even adapted for feature films.
