On account of World Cancer Day on February 4, RR Cancer Institute & Research Centre at Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences (SRMS IMS), Bareilly organized a heartwarming and grand ‘SURVIVAL MEET’at SRMS Alakhnanda Staff Club of SRMS Trust on February 4, 2023. The Cancer Survivors (along with their kith and kin), who were treated and cured at SRMS Hospital, and emerged as winners after battling their life against deadly disease, were felicitated and celebrated for their strength and perseverance by Shri Dev Murti, Chairman SRMS Trust and Aditya Murti, Director Administration, SRMS Trust in the presence of Dr SB Gupta, Principal SRMS IMS; Dr RP Singh, Medical Superintendent, and Air Marshal Retd (Dr) MS Butola, Principal Designate.
Giving the noble meet a kick-start, Dr Piyush Kumar Agarwal, radiation oncologist professor &HOD, Department of Radiotherapy at SRMS IMS gave a welcome speech. A ‘Group Play’ was performed based on cancer awareness, the disease, treatment and recovery, which was well showcased by junior doctors. Survivors shared their experiences, heart-touching and inspiring survival stories, and expressed gratitude towards the doctors and staff of SRMS IMS. This was followed by a video presentationof survivors, who spoke about the disease and its cure available at SRMS Hospital.
Thereafter, Shri Dev Murti addressed the gathering and expressed his happiness to meet the cancer-free survivors, demonstrating the fact that life after cancer diagnosis can be a reality. Dr RP Singh urged the cancer survivors and emphasized upon taking initiatives to apprise others about cancer and its cure so that more people can be benefitted. Later, Aditya Murti greeted the cancer survivors and shared his overwhelming experience of hearing the survival stories. He urged everyone to work in a collective approach with an aim to give best of the treatment, hope and strength to our patients, as a moral responsibility. Later, Shri Dev Murti felicitated all the cancer survivors with a gift hamper, and wished them healthy and long life. He also announced that all the cancer survivors and their families can avail 10% discount on all types of treatments and tests, irrespective of any department at SRMS IMS.
