BUDDING MEDICOS OF SRMS MEDICAL, PARAMEDICAL AND NURSING COLLEGE EMPOWERED AGAINST CYBER THREATS IN A CYBER-CRIME WORKSHOP

In a bid to raise awareness & sensitize students about various cyber-crimes, including those on social media platforms & financial frauds, SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Bareilly recently organized a workshop on ‘Cyber-Crime’ for Medical, Paramedical & Nursing students of SRMS IMS, IPS & Nursing College, Bareilly, which was delivered by special guest & keynote speaker, Neeraj Singh, Inspector, Cyber Crime Police Station, Bareilly.

The engaging session began with welcoming of guest by Air Marshal Dr MS Butola, Principal IMS, along with a memento of appreciation presented by Dr Kranthi Kumar, DSW in the presence of Dr Jaspreet Kaur, Principal IPS.

During the workshop, Neeraj Singh informed that cyber criminals are most active on social media platforms including Email, Whatsapp and Facebook, where they trick & prompt people into sharing their ATM or net banking passwords & withdraw money without their knowledge. He advised against sharing passwords or OTPs with anyone & guided not to click on unknown links, or download suspicious apps. He also cautioned against making private information public & accepting friend requests from unknown sources. During the session, Neeraj Singh also highlighted the rising cases of frauds involving social network rewards, UPI scams & video call blackmail, and addressed the issue of cyberstalking. Later, he emphasized upon reporting any fraudulent activity or loss of money within 24 hours to increase the chances of recovery. He also explained about various sites & helpline numbers for filling complaints like report against viral photos/videos to cybercrime police or DMCA.com; fake profiles on violation of privacy website; financial fraud on 1930; and cyber-crime website—cybercrime.gov.in to register complaints.

Overall, the workshop provided valuable knowledge & guidance to students on protecting themselves from cyber-crimes & potential threats in today’s digital age.
