CELEBRATING WORLD SIGHT DAY: SHRI RAM MURTI SMARAK HOSPITAL’S VISIONARY EXPERT TALKS ABOUT ‘LOVE YOUR EYES AT WORK’!

Today, October 12, is World Sight Day, which is a global event held on the second Thursday of October to raise awareness about vision impairment and blindness. This day is a reminder to cherish our precious gift of vision! The day serves as a reminder of the significant impact that preventable blindness & visual impairment have on individuals and communities, while also promoting efforts to ensure universal access to eye care, early detection & treatment.

On this note, Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences (SRMS IMS) & Shri Ram Murti Smarak (SRMS) Hospital, Bareilly highlights the importance of eye health & the need for accessible & quality eye care services.

Based on this year’s theme, ‘Love Your Eyes at Work’, Dr Neelima Mehrotra, Dean UG, Professor & Head at Department of Ophthalmology, SRMS IMS, Bareilly shares valuable insights on importance of eye care in the workplace for your overall well-being, and says, “This day is a perfect opportunity to encourage people to take action to protect their vision and support initiatives that work towards eliminating avoidable blindness. Your eyes are your most essential tool at work, and it's vital to keep them healthy.”

By following these guidelines, you can promote eye health & reduce the risk of eye strain and discomfort in the workplace:
* Screen Ergonomics: Ensure your workplace is well-lit & position your computer screen at eye level, about 20 inches away. Use anti-glare screens if needed.
* Regular Breaks: Follow the 20-20-20 rule – every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.
* Blink Often: Remember to blink to keep your eyes moist, especially when staring at screens for long hours.
* Eye Exams: Schedule regular eye exams to detect and address any vision problems early.
