SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Bareilly recently hosted a month-long Orientation Programme—the Foundation Course for MBBS Admission Batch 2023, which proved to be an incredibly informative & well-rounded experience for freshers. The elaborative Foundation Course provided students a glimpse of their forthcoming medical journey as Indian Medical Graduates.
The highlights of month-long orientation included familiarizing students with institute’s & hostel rules & regulations, importance of attendance, internal assessment, as well as anti-ragging documentary screening; hostel visit; participation in indoor games, talent & cultural show, essay writing competition & elocution contest; insightful sessions on history of medicine & alternative health systems in India, various career pathways, gender sensitivity in medical profession, basic first aid & life support, immunization requirements for healthcare personnel, role of computers in medical education etc. As days rolled over, new batch was made aware of consequences of unethical behaviour, patient & bio-hazard safety, time & stress management, medical negligence, concept of medical ethics, moral values, good nutrition, communication skills, violence against doctors etc. Students also witnessed healthcare in action during field visits to Community Health Center in Dhaura Tanda.
One of the MBBS Batch 2023 students, Aarushi Varshney, says, “The entire month was full of holistic learning, wherein we understood various horizons of medical world, vital clinical skills, medical advancements, research opportunities etc. We were taught about CPR-a life-saving practical tool to ensure our preparedness in case of medical emergency. We were also sensitized to maintain a balance of practical skills & sense of empathy. Our visit to urban & rural health training centers gave us a peek of how work is being conducted at ground level.”
Another fresher, Aashi quips, “During a month-long orientation, 'Talent Hunt' organized by Connexus Club provided us a platform to showcase our diverse talents, from dance to singing, poetry & drama. It was an inspiring reminder that even amidst the hectic curriculum, medical students are a jack of all trades.”
However, a month-long orientation ended with a gala White Coat ceremony.
