‘PATIENT SAFETY PROGRAM’ AT SHRI RAM MURTI SMARAK MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS UNVEILED SPECTRUM OF PATIENT-SAFETY ACTIVITIES!

Under the norms of National Medical Commission (NMC), a nine-day Patient Safety Program was observed & celebrated at Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences (SRMS IMS), Bareilly on ‘Keeping our promise to do the sick no harm’. A Poster competition was also conducted on ‘International Patient Safety Goals’ at SRMS Nursing College, SRMS Institute of Paramedical Sciences as well as IMS.

The primary goals of the program, based on knowledge sharing, learning, improvement & impactful directions, ensured correct identification of patients, improve staff communication, safe use of medicines & alarms, preventing infection, identifying patient safety risks & preventing mistakes in surgery. The highlights of the event included apprising patients of Patient Rights & Responsibilities/ Grievance Redressal; Mock Drills for Code Red/Code Blue/ Code Pink/ Code Black & Code Yellow by medical students; Medication Safety (Training for Nursing staff); Hand Hygiene sessions; Poster/Slogan & Best Department Competition on patient safety goals etc. The patient safety program witnessed active participation in Poster making competition from the students of SRMS IMS, Paramedical & B Sc Nursing.

Later, the Medical Ward won the Best Department Competition, assessed on parameters like infection control-hand hygiene, biomedical waste management, record keeping, facility check, imbibing patient safety goals etc. The program concluded with NMC Foundation Day, featuring prominent speakers, who emphasized upon patient safety in current healthcare scenario. The event served as a great reminder to inculcate the culture of patient safety, serving the goal of doing sick no harm.
