With the motive of promoting sportsmanship & camaraderie among sports players, it was a proud & thrilling moment for Shri Ram Murti Smarak College of Engineering & Technology (SRMS CET) & Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences (SRMS IMS), Bareilly to host the prestigious Yonex-Sunrise Dr Akhilesh Das Gupta Memorial All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2023 from October 6-12, 2023 in association with District Badminton Association, Bareilly.
However, SRMS CET & SRMS IMS were the host venues from October 6-8, 2023. The remaining and final matches were played at the Bareilly Stadium.
The All-India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament, scheduled from October 6-12, 2023 with prize money of Rs 5 Lacs, was officially inaugurated by Shri Dev Murti, Chairman, SRMS Trust at Multipurpose Hall in SRMS CET Campus, wherein a total of 459 matches were played, whereas 324 matches were played at SRMS IMS.
The tournament that was a smashing-hit, kicked off at Engineering campus with welcoming of esteemed guests—DL Khattar, President, District Badminton Association Bareilly; Basant Chaturvedi, District Badminton Association Bareilly & Ajay Singh, Chief Referee, in the presence of Dr Prabhakar Gupta, Dean Academics SRMS CET; Dr Sovan Mohanty, DSW as well as Organizing Secretary; Jitendra Singh Yadav, Chief Proctor & several other Faculty & Proctorial Board members. As a token of appreciation & respect, DL Khattar & Basant Chaturvedi presented a bouquet & plant saplings to Shri Dev Murti. In the meanwhile, Shri Dev Murti had a formal introduction with the players, wherein he motivated them with his encouraging words to give their best winning shot. He said, “Winning and losing isn't everything; sometimes, the journey is just as important as the outcome.”
Overall, the tournament showcased exceptional badminton talent, making it one of the largest gatherings of badminton enthusiasts, shuttlers and athletes in town.
