SHRI RAM MURTI SMARAK INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES HOSTS SUCCESSFUL & INFORMATIVE 2-DAY ‘RESEARCH PROTOCOL WRITING’ WORKSHOP FOR ITS PG STUDENTS!

Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences (SRMS IMS), Bareilly in collaboration with Institute of Applied Statistics, Kanpur recently conducted a two-day Workshop on ‘Research Protocol Writing’, accredited by Uttar Pradesh Medical Council (UPMC), under Dr Padam Singh Research & Development Scheme (Joint State Training Center), wherein 115 First-Year PG students (Batch 2023) from SRMS IMS & IPS participated. The aim of the workshop was to educate the participants on how to write a medical research protocol.

The guest speakers were Dr Hitesh Khurana, Professor, Department of Psychiatry, PGIMS, Rohtak; Dr Prayas Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow; & Dr Abhinav Pandey, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, SRMS IMS. The State Co-Ordinator of the scheme & Organizing Secretary for the workshop was Dr Pavan Kumar, Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology, SRMS IMS; while the Regional Co-Ordinator & Co-Organizing Secretary was Dr G Kranthi Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Physiology, SRMS IMS.

During the knowledge-driven sessions, Dr Hitesh explained the fundamental steps of protocol writing, sampling and basic sampling methods. He further discussed the fundamentals of statistics, data, data quality, data entry methods, and basic statistical inference. However, other speakers provided insights into the various components that make up a research protocol, like how to search a relevant topic of medical research, setting up aims & objectives, literature review, methodology, sample size determination & reference writing.

However, the workshop concluded with certificate distribution, providing participants with a better understanding of the components of a well-written research protocol and how to apply these principles for their own research projects.
