As a part of Swachhata Pakhwada—Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2023 campaign and 9th Anniversary of the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’, a massive cleanliness drive was conducted by and at Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences (SRMS IMS), Bareilly on October 1, 2023, to commemorate & pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary on October 2.
This drive, which is a Government of India initiative, was organized jointly by DDWS (Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation) & MoHUA (Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs) as part of PM Narendra Modi's nationwide initiative 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign. The primary goal of this campaign is to foster community participation through shramdaan activities.
However, keeping up with this spirit, MBBS students of Batch 2023 along with HODs of various departments of SRMS IMS, Bareilly came forward to make a positive impact on surroundings & environment, and participated actively as volunteers in the cleanliness drive, wherein they identified the site in college premises that required cleaning activity & thereafter conducted an hour-long drive based on SHS 2023 theme 'Garbage Free India'. The drive received staunch support from Air Marshal Dr MS Butola, Principal IMS; Dr RP Singh, Medical Superintendent IMS; Dr Neelima Mehrotra, Dean UG; Dr Rohit Sharma, Dean PG; Dr Kranthi Kumar, DSW and many others.
During the drive, the volunteers focused on promoting visual cleanliness & well-being of Safaimitras and worked on raising public awareness on importance of cleanliness. The event was also documented on the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' portal (https://swachhatahiseva.com/), to showcase its commitment to the cause.
