With hard work and great efforts,Dr Sovan Mohanty, Assistant Professor and Chief Proctor in the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering at SRMS CET Bareilly, have achieved an incredible milestone. His project ‘RECYCLOCITY- The Trail to Treasure to Create Secondary Resources through Recycling of Waste Printed Circuit Boards’ has been accepted based on the screening by the reviewers for the 12th Project Innovation Contest (PIC)-2023 (in conjunction with the 19th ICDCIT 2023) which will be held during January 18-22, 2023 at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.
Scholars Raj Sinha and Saba Mazhar, Department of CSE collaborated on this project under the supervision of Dr Sovan Mohanty, and they together performed admirably as a team. The aim of this project is not to focus on the recycle of e-waste, but also to extract precious nano-particles via an eco-friendly and sustainable method. Speaking about the details of the project, Dr Sovan Mohanty said, “This project proposes an integrated waste management system to quantify costly metal from a discarded printed circuit board through a base metal secondary hydrometallurgical operation process. The Printed Circuit Board can act as an attractive secondary resource and at the same time an environmental burden. However, modern smelter and refinery process affects the recycling efficiency in terms of elements and recovery of value in terms of toxic control and overall environmental performance.”
However, the work shows a process model and critical economic analysis of electronic waste. The research focuses on application areas in electronic waste to make real differences in human endeavor. After receiving the great honour, Dr Sovan Mohanty, who has qualified the participation criteria based on technical skills and innovative thinking in solving real life problems, thanked the SRMS Institute for continuous assistance and support extended towards the project.
